August Skopik -
2003 Men’s Veteran 40 National Champion

August Skopik began fencing at Texas A& M University.  He has worked with coaches such as Michelle Sebastiani and Claude Caux for extended periods, and many national coaches from around the world for further expertise.

August’s coaching style has worked well with National Fencers and local fencers looking for a sport to be able to participate in.  August has worked well with a variety of student’s, even teaching legally blind fencers to be successful against national competitors in their age group while not giving away that they were blind.

A sample list of August’s accomplishments:

  • Texas State Champion – Seven times with two three weapon championships
  • Texas Collegiate Champion
  • Winner of the Van Buskirk Fencing Tournament in three decades, (Not 2010’s yet)
  • Top 32 in the country in Foil, Saber and Epee at National Tournaments.

Welcome to Fencing in West Houston

We are located in the Katy area

Katy Blades Fencing Academy’s mission is to introduce people to the Olympic sport of fencing. Katy Blades has members ranging from the ages six to over sixty, (they won’t tell us their age but they still beat us). Fencing is excellent for individuals that love the adventure and challenge of an individual sport. We find that it's also great for those who may not have athletic ability or desire to participate in traditional sports such as football. Fencing is a great way to develop both mental and physical conditioning.

Programs

Beginners programs

Beginner Classes rotate continually, and there are several specific ideas that we want to introduce to the fencers before they move on to the other classes. Beginners are taught the basics of fencing positions, footwork, proper technique and are encouraged to start fencing as soon as they are prepared. Beginners participate in group lessons, individual lessons and will enjoy fencing other beginners as they learn.

Fence a friend

If you and a friend are interested in exploring the sport, we have a special that will get you both down for a free trial.
